Villa Comunitaria

Our Programs

Villa Comunitaria programs are important to helping immigrants in King County navigate the complexities of the United States immigration, housing, health and education system so they can thrive and prosper. The focus of our work is in holistic approaches that supports the resilience and strengths of families.

Former participants of the organization are now: on the board of Villa Comunitaria, community organizers working to address displacement in the Duwamish Valley, teaching CPR in Spanish (first in the country!), leading a basketball program for adults, providing technology training, women getting their driver’s license, and several other small projects. The culmination of this work is due to a cadre of Promotoras Comunitarias that have put the training they have received into action.

The leadership development work, since 2005, has culminated into the organization that is growing in its reach in the Latino community and the critical issues they navigate. This leadership development (“Incubators of leaders”) among Latinas is a phenomenon in South Park and the secret sauce for Villa Comunitaria’s success in reaching people living in isolation who may fear or mistrust the government.
